Top Five Things to Consider in Mobile Era: Benchmark Your Company !

Share

I have been discussing with many c-level executives about mobility and what is the next best thing that would transform the way we operate in our companies. For sure mobility is a real game changer. I have not seen anybody objecting to this! But going into a deeper dialog requires creating a sense of urgency or awareness. In order to create this I have 5 questions to ask:

1- Do you have a mobile first strategy:

Does your IT still code and deploy software for desktop computing? Or do they deploy for mobile Era. If they are still creating solutions for desktop computing that means everyday you are creating new stuff to move out of your landscape!

2- Do you have an Internal Mobile Apps Store:

I like calling it your internal itunes. Think about having all your mobile apps being served to different devices from a single point. See the following examples for ipad and iphone

3- Do you hava a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategy:

In todays mobile Era, what ever we do it must be device independent and people must be able to choose and use their own device preference. As of today we do not know who will be the winner or killer device for the next wave. The winner is changing very fast. It was Microsoft, then BlackBerry and now Apple. Can any one guess what will be the next! We should be able to manage different devices centrally. Mobile device management must be active for different mobile OS platforms.

4- Do you have  a strategy to enable your current infrastructure with mobility:

You have to unwire your current systems.  you have to make sure what you do for one platform or device group will be suitable for other emerging new mobile technologies

5- Mobility is a transformation:

It is not just technology. the way we do our day to day business will change. You must have a clear transformation roadmap in place.

If your company is doing all 5 it is excellent. 4 is also good. 3 is still not bad.
But anything below 3 ! you have to watch out.
